About Madhubani Paintings

A traditional art form created by the women of Mithila region in Bihar. These are handmade with natural colors using fingers, twigs, brushes, nibs or sometimes match sticks giving a sense of antiquity. 
As the story goes, King Janak employed some local women to decorate the walls and floors of his palace as part of the grand arrangements of his daughter Sita's wedding with Rama, the King of Ayodhya! 
Down the centuries, the women of Mithila have kept this tradition alive.
