About Kantha Embroidery

Kantha is an embroidery craft form popular in eastern India & Bangladesh. In old times, it was often practised by rural women to reuse old clothes and make something new out of them, which make this form of embroidery unique in itself.

In modern times, it has made its way into the contemporary fashion styles and home furnishing as well, employing beautiful designs and motifs - flowers, animals, birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday life. Kantha embroidery is done with simple running stitches along the edges, and it gives a slightly wrinkled and wavy effect to the fabric.
